FMIMO Biosciences joins the Europa + Cerca mission to Brussels
MIMO Biosciences joined the Europa + Cerca business mission to Brussels from 25 to 28 May 2026. The programme helps companies from Navarre and other Spanish regions get to know the European institutions. It also helps them prepare stronger applications for EU research and innovation funding. Jessika Valero, PhD, Director of Business Development, represented the company during the week.
A week focused on Horizon Europe
First, the Spanish Office for Science and Technology in Brussels (SOST-CDTI) gave an overview of [Horizon Europe]. Then, its team held one-to-one meetings with each participating company. With MIMO, the discussion focused on the funding lines that best fit our profile as a CRO specialised in immuno-oncology and immunology.
Next, a hands-on workshop explained how to prepare a competitive proposal. It covered the evaluation criteria, the structure of a technical proposal and the most common mistakes. Furthermore, each company gave a short pitch to the rest of the group. As a result, participants were able to explore possible consortia for future joint applications.
Inside the European institutions
On the second day, the Europa + Cerca group visited the European Commission. There, speakers from DG Research and Innovation presented the priorities for the next Horizon Europe programme, which will run from 2028 to 2034. Afterwards, sessions at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the EU covered the European Defence Fund and the European Competitiveness Fund. Finally, the visit ended at the European Parliament with a talk on its role in EU funding programmes.
Next steps for MIMO
“This experience has allowed us to dig deeper into our opportunities in European projects, and to learn the tools that tell us how and where to act,” said Jessika Valero.
The knowledge gained through Europa + Cerca will therefore feed directly into our funding strategy. Our goal is to choose European calls more carefully and to submit stronger proposals. At the same time, this work will complement our commercial activity, where we offer [proprietary preclinical models] to pharma, biotech and academic partners. If you are building a European consortium in immunology or immuno-oncology, [get in touch with our team].
